This is MapMod for
First World War Campaigns: France '14.
I was privileged enough to get to follow the
development of this fascinating title. This also
gave me the opportunity to start
working on a mod for it very early.
It took me almost two years to complete and the
final result is my most extensive mod to date. The biggest difference
between this mod and MapMod for Panzer Campaigns is
something I call 'Unit Cards'. ( See below for more
info on these. )
One thing I would like to point out about this mod,
or any other MapMod for that matter, is that it is a
visual mod only - it never alter anything but
graphics. This means that, after installing MapMod,
you can continue your ongoing games against the AI
or PBEM opponents without worries, and your opponent
does NOT need MapMod installed on his end. MapMod
will never ever add, remove or alter anything else
but artwork - this ensures compatibility with
official updates, Volcano's mods and user created
scenarios.
And with that said, I hope you enjoy this mod
- it was a long and painful pleasure making it, and
to be perfectly honest I am not sure whether to feel
happy or sad over the fact that it is finally
finished... :-)

This mod contains a large number of Unit Cards - if we include the HQ's in the count we end up with
several hundred cards -
and they are all hand painted exclusively for this mod. ( Use
the links above to familiarize yourself with them. )
There is nothing overly complicated about these cards,
they simply replace the original unit art in the game,
and they come in the shape of cards - hence 'Unit
Cards'.
The example to the right shows a Unit Card of a regular
french infantry battalion à la 1914, and how it appears
in-game. I like to think it is quite self explanatory.
NOTE: For those of you who prefer to skip Unit Cards
altogether and go for Volcano's unit art instead, there is
a second version of this mod that only include
counters, markers and map art. ( See 'Download' further
down on this page. )

The map and unit counters stay true to the MapMod
style you are used to, so you will feel right at home
from the start. After a couple of years with feedback
from the users of MapMod for Panzer Campaigns, mixed
with frequent step-by-step adjustments, I think it's
safe to say the map has matured enough to satisfy, if
not all, so atleast a majority of users. So I refrained
myself from doing any additional map changes for this
mod. |

If you
have no previous experience with these mods I suggest
you make yourself acquainted with MapMod for Panzer
Campaigns first - located
here. There you will find a
Map Legend that explains all features in detail, and altough it
deals with the PzC version of MapMod, almost every
aspect
is the same, or atleast very very similair.
And now, lets end all this talk with a useless
little
side note:
An observant user has perhaps
already
noticed that the map in the original game actually
are based on an early
version
of MapMod, and altough it feels a bit 'yesterday'
now when I look at it, and it has been modified in ways
I don't necessarily agree with, it is still great to see
MapMod conquer an official HPS series... :-)
